Perfect for the practitioner who travels or who has a need for a
portable altar space, this 12" Altar Table has been carved with the
likeness of the Greenman. The Greenman, appearing throughout medieval
architecture, is commonly revered as an icon representing the male half
of divinity and nature, and is sometimes worshiped as a potent figure of
rebirth, the Hunt, and the powerful ability of nature to grow and
prosper. This is perhaps due to the fact that he appears most often as a
man bedecked with foliage sprouting from his face as though it were a
thick, full beard and covering his head as though it were a shaggy mane
of hair.
Here, his image has been carved into the top of the altar table,
bordered by a pattern of concentric circles. The whole image is brought
to life by a rich, forest-green coat of stain that grows lighter where
the wood has been carved away to create the Greenman's image. The result
is a sturdy piece with four solid legs and a flat table surface.
The whole table measures approximately 12" wide by 12" deep and 7 1/2" tall.
